What to Expect at a Cash-Based Physical Therapy Visit
If you've never been to a cash-based physical therapy clinic, it's reasonable to wonder how it works. Here's what happens, from booking to your first session and beyond.
What "cash-based" means
At J Sports Rehabilitation, you pay at the time of your visit and we don't bill insurance. That's the reason every session is one-on-one with a physical therapist. We aren't managing multiple patients at once, and treatment decisions are based on what you need, not on what an insurance plan will approve.
Before your visit
Contact us at either location in Baldwin Park or Winter Springs. Wear comfortable clothing you can move in. If you have imaging, a physician's notes, or a list of past injuries, bring them. If you play a sport or have physical demands at work, be ready to tell us about them.
Your first visit (60 minutes)
History and goals. We start by talking through what's going on, what you've already tried, and what you want to get back to.
Movement screening and assessment. We look at how your whole body moves, then use joint-by-joint assessments to find the root cause of your pain, not just the sore spot.
Hands-on treatment and exercise. You don't leave with only a diagnosis. Treatment and targeted exercises start in the same session.
Your plan. You'll leave knowing what we found, what we're doing about it, and what to expect next.
What it costs
Your first session is typically 60 minutes and costs $140.
Follow-up sessions are scheduled based on how much time you need that day:
20 minutes: $50
30 minutes: $72
40 minutes: $95
60 minutes: $140
That means you aren't paying for a full hour when a focused 30 minutes is what your recovery calls for.
Who it's a good fit for
Cash-based care works well for athletes, active adults, and anyone with persistent or complex pain who wants an unrushed evaluation and consistent, one-on-one care.
Common questions
Do I need a referral to see a physical therapist in Florida?
Not to get started. Florida is a direct access state, so you can book an evaluation and begin treatment without a prescription.
If a physician has already evaluated your injury, treatment can generally continue beyond 30 days without extra paperwork.
If it's a new injury no physician has assessed, we can evaluate and treat you right away. If treatment is needed beyond 30 days, a Florida-licensed practitioner must review and sign the plan, so we'd coordinate with a physician at that point.
If you plan to submit to insurance, your plan may have its own referral or authorization requirements on top of Florida law, so check with your insurer before your visit.
How many visits will I need?
It depends on your injury, your goals, and how your body responds. We'll give you a realistic picture after your first visit.
